Yesterday we flew to Hartford for an IBTS Anniversary Ride – details on that in a day or two. As always, the first order of business is to assemble the bikes. It’s a good feeling when you have all of the pieces – and none left over and the wheels turn, the pedals spin, the brakes stop you and all (30) gears work.
Several of us took a 14 mile “test ride”. We went to a “fly-in and car show”. Most of us had never been to an air-show / car-show combination. There were hundreds of cars of every possible description. My favorites were
- An 1968 E Jag with an immaculate candy-red paint job.
- A green 1960 bug-eyed Austin Healy Sprite with white racing stripes. It so reminded me of the baby blue Sprite I had my senior year in college.
Today’s 40 mile first-day ride to Northampton, Ma was damn-near perfect. The weather couldn’t have been better, from the low 50’s to the 70’s. Most of us selected riding from the Simsbury Inn on a bike path. The first part of it was thru the forest; although the shade made it a brisk ride at first. The path continued for 20 miles – into Massachusetts. But we had to stop at mile 14 for a second breakfast at Red Riding Hoods – what a great place. My egg and cheese sandwich on a cinnamon raisin bagel went perfectly with my large cappuccino.
We had planned on lunch in Northampton and as we exited the bike trail we spotted a Chowder House. A bowl of seafood chowder and a Diet Coke was just what I needed.
