AUTUMN IN THE PYRENEES: Rest Day in Carcassonne

First on our agenda was a visit to the Basilique des Saints Nazaire et Celse. Does anyone remember what constitutes a basilica?  We had heard there were four incredible singers from Moscow who preformed several times an hour.

The acoustics of the basilica and the four singers sounded like the Mormon Tabernacle Choir - quite incredible.

I've been trying for two days to get my beard trimmed but the barber never seems to be open.  Yesterday the shop was wide open but nobody was around.  Today at noon he told us he would open at 2:00 but no one was there at two, the door was locked and my knocking was ineffective.

We were at the large bike shop at 12:05 but they close for lunch from 12:00 to 2:00.  Doesn't anyone in France want to do business?  Well the shops at Le Cite do; shops and people are both wall to wall.

This afternoon we had a guided tour of Chateau et Remparts de Carcassonne.  The guide gave more history than I could possibly absorb - sort of like History in college.  I was impressed at the 12th century paintings that they discovered in one of the restorations.
