AUTUMN IN THE PYRENEES: Narbonne-Plage to Siran

Since I had only one photo yesterday I vowed to do better today and to take pictures in most villages. More of the photos in a moment.

Gilbert told us that when you climb (1,500 feet) La Clape leaving Narbonne you will have your last view of the Mediterranean Sea. But from here to Toulouse, you will have a "sea of vineyards".  Which makes me wonder, "What is the difference between an ocean and a sea?"  Wikipedia has the answer:

An ocean is a body of saline water that composes much of a planet's hydrosphere. On Earth, an ocean is one of the major conventional divisions of the World Ocean, which covers almost 71% of its surface. These are, in descending order by area, the Pacific, Atlantic, Indian, Southern, and Arctic Oceans. The word sea is often used interchangeably with "ocean" in American English but, strictly speaking, a sea is a body of saline water (generally a division of the world ocean) partly or fully enclosed by land.

Ok, back to today's photos:

Vinassan

Lock at Coursan.  We saw this boat rise 25 to 30 feet in 10 minutes.

Probably Ventenac.

La Caunette. Gilbert said this was a picturesque village but we didn't see it.  Possibly we didn't go far enough into town.
We ate lunch in a very picturesque town, Minerve - see photos above and below.

About 2 km from Siran, we took a slight detour to see a 5,000 year old burial site Dolmen  Des Fades.
